Even though automatic transmissions are easy and fun to drive, you should avoid few things. Automatic transmission are more advance and efficient piece of machine and following few best practice or avoiding most common mistakes would definitely maintain the good health of transmission
1. Revving the Engine Before shifting to the gear
Revving the engine before you switch the gear wouldn’t be good options as it’s going to damage internal part of transmission system and it will be going to damage or create more friction
2. Shifting the gear to parking when vehicle is in moving condition
We have observed, many people shift the gear without noticing that vehicle has not yet come to standstill condition and it will create more shocks to transmission and it will result in faster damage to clutch rings/plates
3. Driving vehicle without any warm up
This problem should be avoided specially in winter time. The oil condense or it become heavier during winter time which makes auto trans parts to rotate quickly and it increase loads on components. The warming up engine is always the best option where all parts get equally activated and get synchronize properly
4. Keeping at Neutral at Red signal light
We do this to Save fuel and protect the transmission from wear. In fact, the loss is minimal if you push the brakes by keeping the gearbox in Drive mode. The actual damage takes place when you change from into and out of the neutral mode.
5. Driving the Vehicle in neutral during down slop
This won’t let you accelerate the car except for slowing it down. It cuts the oil supply, so the transmission does not get the proper lubrication for smooth operation.
